BUILDING THE REALM
One Small Step For....

I wanted to recreate the entire "Arcade Experience" in my Basement. I had a few decorations on the walls here and there and extension cords running about. And then I decided to do it right...

I had an electrician install a dedicated 80 AMP box with 9 circuits on it. Each circuit control a quad outlet. I can manually turn on all 9 or just leave them all on and flip the switch on the box to my house to bring everything to life at the same time. This seems to be the more popular choice.

The first thing that had to be changed was the ceiling. I wanted to have something to set my Arcade apart. There are MANY great arcades out there among collectors but there was one thing that I hadn't really seen and that was something unique on the ceiling. I wanted to recreate the night sky on the ceiling for an extra special effect. I looked into Fiber Optics but since my basement was already finished it really wasn't an option. I did some searching on the Internet and discovered Jean at COSMIC ROOMS    Jean came out to my house to examine my ceiling and give me an estimate. I chose the DEEP SPACE theme because it had shooting stars, nebula's, and comets. I also had the MILKY WAY painted across the center. She used a special UV reacting paint that glows with the black lights in the room. As a special touch I gave her a picture of my daughter and asked her to paint her on the ceiling as well. Overall she did a fantastic job and I highly recommend her work to anyone.

Next was the paint. The "Egg Shell" white that was included with the house just wouldn't cut it. After many exhausting hours at Home Depot I finally decided on the color -Cavern Gray- Overall I am very pleased with the choice. My friend Kurt helped me paint the room and between the 2 of us and a few beers we got it done in a few hours. THANKS KURT!!!

Now that the ceiling was done I moved on to the carpet. I had my eye on the SHOCKWAVE carpet from the moment I saw it. I ordered about 10 black light carpet samples from various places and there was no question the the SHOCKWAVE was the way to go. It was by far the best sample I had seen and I really liked the grid design. It really makes the room, if you are debating on getting black light carpet all I can say is DO IT. I ordered mine from KID CARPET
